Review: Mother Up! ‘Mr. Right in the Eye’

Greg’s holding a BBQ and the ladies are talking about their husbands which gets Rudi a bit depressed so she makes up a bit of a lie to get her out of a social jam. She then tells Sarah that her and this mystery guy are going on vacation and that Rudi needs her to watch the kids while they are away.

To try and not look like a fool, Rudi books a phony trip that really just sees her at a local motel.  After a day at school talking up a big storm, Rudi puts together another fake vacation at the motel, but this time he breaks up with the mystery dude. 2Bit starts to wonder about Rudi and decides to buy her a robo dude who is evidently a big fan of domestic abuse.

With the robo guy going nuts, the neighbors break into her house where they go after the now malfunctioning dude, but now he wants to bang out Greg.

Meanwhile, Dick is having trouble at school, so Suzi Chu’s daughter is named his tutor. Dick soon starts to take a liking to this girl named Agnus whom is normally a shut in, but Ms. Chu isn’t crazy about her kid being allowed to go outside. To make sure Dick doesn’t lose her, he starts putting incorrect answers on his tests so that she has to stick around.  When Agnus finds out, she seems a bit turned on, but Ms. Chu gets pissed and ruins the tutorship anyway.

Again, this show is awesome when it suspends belief with some sci-fi as it perfectly exemplifies how animated shows should be and then putting in a sub plot that kind of keeps the show grounded so as to not confuse it with Futurama or Rick and Morty. Putting 2Bit back in this week’s episode was a good move as it reminds the viewers that Rudi used to have a different life in the city and it’s still a struggle to balance her old ways of doing things and her new ways of doing things, all the meanwhile showing her growth as a mother even when going up against some of the other moms who think they know what’s best for their kids. Very good episode and definitely worth a watch on Hulu.
