Reddit AMA Recap: Janet Varney from Legend of Korra
It’s been a little while since Book 2 of Legend of Korra finished up on Nickelodeon and already Book 3 is on everyone’s mind. The only things we know right now about Book 3 is that the book will be entitled Change and that the first four episodes have been completed, but with no specific air date announces yet.
Recently the voice of Korra and ex-girlfriend of douche bag Chris Hardwick, Janet Varney, took part in a Reddit AMA where she answered fan questions about her role as Korra and the future of the Legend of Korra franchise. Here are some highlights from said AMA…
To kick things off, Janet was asked about her prep for the world of Korra and how familiar she was with the franchise before playing the show’s titular character, hints on Book 3, and which character(s) she relates to the most:
I was absolutely a fan of the show. I hadn’t seen the entire series and I actually stopped watching when the audition process started for Korra because I didn’t want to get too attached! This is something actors do to protect their feelings and it seldom works. 🙂
I don’t think I can talk much about the cast of Book 3 yet! I wish I could! All I can say is that there are yet MORE amazing people!
There are so many great characters from both series, it’s so hard to choose just one! But I have to be perfectly honest and say that I can relate a lot to Bolin. Like his alter-ego PJ, I get very excited about everything and sometimes I talk too much! But then like Korra, I can also be very impatient.
Legend of Korra has a pretty awesome voice cast with a whole bunch of notable names like Lisa Edelstein (House), Aubrey Plaza (The To Do List), and of course the brilliant J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man 2). Janet was asked how cool it was working with J.K. Simmons and she literally responded with a bunch of cool comments:
Oh, he’s just the coolest ever. He’s so cool. I’m super intimidated by how cool he is, even though he’s the nicest, too.
He’s like… the person you desperately want to like you, and to make laugh, but he’s always cool as a cucumber so you end up acting like a hyper puppy?
The one thing that I was rather impressed with when it came to Janet talking about her role as ‘Korra’, I couldn’t help but appreciate how much Janet seemed to CARE about the role. It’s so often you hear about voice actors who invest in roles as more of a financial commitment, but Janet seems to be really in to her role as she was asked about her favorite character moments that have occurred in Book 2:
I really love the moment she realizes she’s in touch with Aang for the first time. That recognition that she is truly connected to something bigger than herself – the thing Tenzin keeps trying to get her to understand… that is a beautiful thing. Both as the Avatar and as a person (who could use some humbling!)
Janet had a whole bunch more to say about Legend of Korra, find out what else she had to say over on the Reddit AMA here.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
