Review: Rick and Morty ‘Anatomy Park’
Spoilers Below
What other show would have a Christmas special where a teenager gets shrunk and sent on a treacherous mission inside of a disease-ridden homeless man’s body? Exactly. I would follow that up by saying “Poor Morty,” but he actually manages to get some action…from a human girl. He’s movin’ on up.
This episode had it all; from monstrous depictions of diseases like hepatitis a and gonorrhea, to a three-way interracial relationship with an enormous, and for some disturbing, age gap. If that doesn’t sound like it would be your cup of tea, then maybe a journey through the human body a la Fantastic Voyage or The Magic School Bus would tickle your pickle. If your sense of humor is dry, dark, or perverted in any way, then this show will have something for you.
There are many lessons to be learned in this special holiday episode, but there are two in particular that I know will stay with me. The first; the human body is a sacred place with untapped potential for tourism. The second; while human connection and sexual perversion are incredibly important, you just can’t beat the trance-inducing entertainment value of handheld technology. Thank you, Rick and Morty. Thank you.
This show is so good that it’s difficult for me to find flaws to take points away. I gave the first two episodes 9.5s, which means that I’d like to be more harsh, but I just can’t be. I’m having too much fun. I think the envelope-pushing nature of the show has continued to bloom from one episode to the next, and this week they push closer to a perfect score. I’m still waiting on that laugh out loud moment, but small chuckles throughout and a genuine appreciation of the show’s plots, characters, and aesthetics are a winning combination.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
