Review: Steven Universe “Frybo”

Steven is missing pants, while Pearl is missing something called a crystal shard. She goes into a long winded explanation about why the shard is dangerous, that Steven just zones out for. Pearl goes into town to look for it, and Steven finds his pants, and they have the missing shard. The fry shop owner’s kid doesn’t want to do his job, wishing for the suit to do it . Steven ends up animating Frybo. The kid gets his freedom, but soon becomes bored. While pondering the meaning of life, Frybo starts attacking the fry stand. The fry guy opens up his heart, but his kid isn’t in it. That suit is vicious, shoving fries down people’s throats and whatnot. Luckily, Pearl shows up to save the day. Steven uses the shard to create a clothes army, and uses it as an army to attack Frybo. Steven reaches in Frybo’s mouth, and gets the shard. The fry shop owner and his kid give the suit a viking funeral, and Steven is still naked.

I am not sure how I feel about this episode. I love how, innocent, they make Steven, even when he gets naked, to defeat Frybo with his clothes army. However, there hasn’t been much progress when it comes to him actually using his gem. As much as I hate to keep harping on it, this is starting to definitely feel like it’s getting Adventure Time’s style of a season arc. We get an episode or two of the story, and then we get quite a few fillers. I guess I was hoping to get a little more out of it from the get go. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the episode, but I was left wanting more of the world to open up. Hopefully, the big bad that the Gems are supposed to protect us from shows up soon. I want to see what forces us to have a group like the Gems to protect us.
