Comics Review: Regular Show #3
Spoilers Below
Sombrero World
The story starts with Benson sending Mordecai and Rigby out to get the cart fixed. They have 3 hours to get from the park to the cart repair place, or they’re fired. On the way, Rigby tries to get Mordecai to stop off at Sombrero World for tacos. In what could very well be the first time I’ve seen Mordecai be responsible, he tells Rigby that they barely have the time to get to the cart repair shop, let alone to stop for tacos. As they pass, Ponchobot breaks out from the Sombrero World, and chases the guys right to the shop. Benson says he’s proud that they made it, and asks them to make a trip to Sombrero World so Benson can get a hat.’
Arm Skills
Mordecai and Rigby see some ads for an arm wrestling contest, with the top prize of $2000. They get Skip to train them, and they enter the arm-wrestling tournament. They arm wrestle up to the finals agains The Robots, where Paingiver Prime uses the resonant frequencies to come on through. Prime then tries to break through to Earth. The Robots then self-destruct to close the portal.
Hot Tub
Rigby finds a hot tub in the forest, and enlists Mordecai to help him bring it back. After Rigby gets it set up, he gets pulled in, and he incidentally pulls in Mordecai. They end up inside Crockett and Tubbz, where they meet up with Bubbles. After a heartfelt speech, Rigby convinces Bubbles to let them back home.
Where do I begin? These stories were a mixed bag. Sombrero World was really funny, but it couldn’t carry the whole book. Arm Skills and Hot Tub didn’t do much for me. Arm Skills felt like an abbreviated story board for an episode. Also, Hot Tub had a great premise, but it could have benefited from being a full book. There was not a story to latch onto and say, “Get this book and read this story. If you want a book that has the standard on what comic art should be, go for it. The story is lacking really bad here.
In addition, I know Kaboom is listening. This book took over 2 months to come out, and that was after #2 was delayed as well. I was not impressed at all, seeing as though this should have been out a while ago. When you have an inconsistent release schedule, there is no way to gain traction in popularity and get more people to read. I gave a pass on the last issue, but this is unacceptable. If you want to get people to read, give us something to read, and adhere to the deadlines. When will we get #4, December? Get with the program guys. These books are getting more disappointing the more we have to wait for them.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
