Review: High School USA! ‘Heroes’

Spoilers Below

Marsh gets a new assignment where he has to interview his hero. His dad declines the initial offer but recommends his step-dad Anson. Looks like everyone at school is interviewing their dad except Brad whose dad is like a sexual icon. Marsh begs Brad to bring him to a Diet Con where we meet Garrett Philanders whom used to be fat and is now a travelling evangelist for dieting to get ladies. Unfortunately, Brad’s mom shows up to try and use his son as a negotiating piece, but Garrett just gives them pre-signed merch. Marsh on the other hand is able to convince Garrett to come over his house and meet his single mom! Brad hangs out with the other kids to show off his dieting tactics, while Marsh is entertaining Garrett. We find out that Marsh’s mom is NOT coming home and even though Garrett is scheduled to be at High School USA!, Brad and the kids drop off at the house to convince Marsh’s dad Mr. Merriwether to show up so this way Marsh doesn’t flunk his class. Merriwether shows up with Anson to show off as Marsh’s hero, but after giving a big speech

For anyone who has never seen this show up to this point you should do this one thing. Turn it on, and just tune in for the musical intro. If after a few rewinds you aren’t reciting the lyrics over and over again to your dog watching the show with you, then you may not be human. With the intro you get the added bonus of a pretty funny show and its getting even funnier because the adults are starting to get more and more involved. My new favorite character may be Mr. Merriwether as he almost exhibits a polar opposite to Randy Marsh. Where in South Park and most animated shows the father is trying to constantly prove himself to his kids that he’s an awesome dad, Meriweather showed himself to be the complete opposite which is a nice refresh to what we normally see. As a matter of fact High School USA! as a whole is a show that is a lot of opposites which is probably the reason why this is going to stick around a bunch longer. Yep, this may be Dino Stamatopoulos’ finest show of his career…yes even better than Community.
