There are many famous speeches that we as humans turn to for inspiration. The Gettysburg Address, The “I Have A Dream” speech, and Lou Gehrig all come to mind. But they only come to mind if you’re a sane person. I, however, am clearly crazy. Patton Oswalt’s “citizen filibuster” is penultimate when it comes to on-the-spot writing. Oswalt is a comedic wrecking ball; he literally outclasses and destroys all other talents around him (Example: This past week’s episode of Axe Cop. See: Sockarang.). You could tell that he came into the show with an idea and ran with it on-the-fly, which is incredible considering you could tell it was only one take. I can barely introduce myself in one take, as is clearly documented in any of our pre-Hurricane Sandy podcasts. So what better way to kick off YouTube Geek Week than to revisit this grand moment in time? The answer: Animate it.

Nerdist Channel posted up the Daniel Spellman completed project on Saturday and it has since skyrocketed to over 221,000 hits as of this writing. And it’s no wonder that this video has become such a juggernaut. Oswalt’s out of this world (literally) delivery is perfectly coupled with Spellman’s hilarious and wonderfully technical artwork. It sounds cliché, but the jokes and zings literally jump off the screen, which is a testament to the fantastic pictures Spellman can conjure. There’s only one true way to express not only my feelings for this video, but my hopes that this story actually comes to fruition.
