Review: MAD “The Great Batsby / Big Time Gold Rush”

It’s another Monday, with another episode of MAD. Is it as good as the title makes you think it is? Eh…let’s not jump the shark on this.-MAD-_TV_Show_Title

“The Great Batsby“

This is a great parallel between two iconic stories, Batman and The Great Gatsby. If you have seen The Dark Knight Rises, you know what I’m talking about here. You have some really great animation of what looks like paper cutouts. Paper Leo tries to get into the sketch twice, to be stonewalled, while Paper Christian Bale is freaking hilarious. This is a Batman story, damn it. The Batmobile is golden yellow, to match the car, and Paper Toby gets run over in the end. You should see this episode for the sketch.

Overall: 8/10

“Big Time Gold Rush”

This is what seems to be the bread and butter of MAD, the mash up. Where Batsby was funny, this just fell so flat. When you start the sketch with a line like “Everyone hates Big Time Rush.” you expect this to put the kids through the ringer. Unfortunately, you get the kids being dropped off in the Klondike to work for Todd Hoffman. Most of the time, it’s them barely digging. This sketch died when they pull Eminem out of the dirt, and started to rot when Nickelback entered the mix. If you wanted to get the “has beens / never was” angle, this was beaten into your head fiercely. I just did not enjoy it.
