Shorts Review: Mob Squad Episodes 7-8-9

 Spoilers Below

“Gonzo, why are you doing three episodes of Mob Squad in one review?” you might ask me if we were chatting in a casual setting.

Well maybe it’s just your lucky day, reader. Or maybe you think I’m lazy and have lagged behind a couple episodes and this is just some lame ruse. Well, did you ever stop to think I may have been delayed in writing your precious review because this writer happens to be prone to frequent and terrifyingly-inconvenient blackouts due to my previous participation in experimental GGGGGRRRFFFFFMMMMM(((((@@@BBB hhajdhasjd ###### . . . BANANAS!

Episode 7 basically involves the Mob Squad attempting to build a bridge. The bridge is not just a structure used by the characters to cross a ravine deep within a cavern, it’s also the perfect metaphor for this episode. While not doing much most of the time, the episode (like a bridge) just links you between point A and point B; the points in this case being the episodes immediately preceding and following episode 7.

In Episode 8, it turns out The Witch is taking Phil and Lyle to see a guy named Nigel, or “Niggle,” who is a slime from Minecraft. Apparently, though, The Witch is only interested in re-kindling a previous relationship with Nigel. After some confusion, the gang agrees to take (but not lead) the smallest Nigel to see Steve.

Meanwhile, Cameron and Cooper attempt to rescue Marcus from a hole he dug himself into in the previous episode. Marcus eventually just pick, pick, picks his way forward and breaks through a wall. He spots Phil and calls out to him, but the skeleton he sees only responds, “Who the fuck are you?” in a strange Aussie/Brit/Cockney accent.

Episode 9 doesn’t begin with this cliffhanger right away. In fact, the first surprise of the show is that Nigel and Cameron actually already know each other. The rest of the gang (minus Marcus, who has dug out the entire cave/house) reunite, and they attempt to find their missing friend. The Witch, however, continues to attempt to reconnect with Nigel. Unfortunately, Marcus is only led further astray while following a small cat (actually a baby tiger) and is caught outside as the sun becomes to come up, and our zombie friend catches fire faster than a Canyonero.

Though the dialogue seems to be lacking the usual cleverness in these last few episodes, nine episodes deep, Mob Squad is still keeping it real (fuh show) and still draws cackles, chuckles, and guffahs from this reviewer as I lol, lmao and rotflcopter myself.

The best jokes in the three episodes stem from The Witch’s attempts to seduce Lyle the Spider (most-likely only to make Nigel jealous) and – of course – anything featuring Marcus. Luckily for us, Episodes 7, 8, and 9 feature some great Marcus bits.

So, if you’re going to pick a Machinima show to watch, Mob Squad is still your best bet.

NOTE: If you’re reading this and you’re not following me on twitter (@Gonzo_Green) then you’re basically stealing. What did I ever do to you?
