DVD REVIEW: ARCHER SEASON 3
Archer is certainly one of the grandmasters of animated comedy on television nowadays and to prove it Season 3 made our list of the ten best animated shows for 2012. The season featured episodes that will join the echelon of animated sitcoms in terms of importance with episodes like the ‘Heart of Archness’ trilogy, ‘Man From Jupiter‘, and ‘Space Race‘ all of whom featured outstanding guest appearances that always seemed to work well with show star Jon Benjamin playing ‘Sterling’. The animation is top-notch and season after season Floyd County improves upon it giving us thrilling chase scenes that look TOO real to be drawn and helps the series set all sorts of standards in the business.
To go along with the stellar animation we have maybe the best voice cast in cartoons led by Emmy nominee Jon Benjamin as Sterling Archer., the mid-30s sexual casanova that is constantly being heckled by his ISIS team members especially his partner Lana(Aisha Tyler). His mother isn’t any better in terms of her sexcapades as she usually sleeps with every guy that comes to town no matter what their legal status or affiliation with Communist parties. Rounding out the cast is Chris Parnell as ISIS accountant and sometimes double agent Cyril, fat-fuck Pam played by Amber Nash, and the usually bitchy Cheryl played by Judy Greer.
Great episodes aside, Archer Season 3 comes packed with extra features but was quite disappointed that there was episode commentary on only three episodes, but we get an extended version of the ‘Heart of Archness’ trilogy and anytime I can get extra David Cross I’m going to take it. Features also include a trailer for Gator 2 and Cooking with Archer, both of which are funny, funny, funny. With all this in mind for a decently priced Blu-Ray at around $30, this one is a no-brainer.
