Fish Hooks is in a league of its own in terms of animated television on Disney Channel. Yes, Gravity Falls has take a bit of the spotlight lately and Phineas and Ferb gets water fountains of cash, but Fish Hooks has consistent quality that just can’t be matched on that network. For those who don’t know the series, Fish Hooks the plots usually revolve around Oscar, his brother Milo, and/or their best friend Bea as they live in an aquarium located in a pet store usually inhabited by a dude who looks completely lost. These kids deal with the typical tribulations of living in high school, like dating, working part-time, and somehow getting thru high school. Then at the end of every 15-minute episode we get a candid wrap up about the episode featuring a rattlesnake and a mouse both of whom are somehow friends.

The series was created by Noah Jones and developed by Alex Hirsch (of whom would later create Gravity Falls) and the show itself comes with a chockful of names you may or may not know. Examples include Aqua Teen’s Dana Snyder, SNL’s Rachel Dratch, and The Middle’s Atticus Shaffer. The writing at times can be pretty standard for an animated series on Disney about High School, but the stellar voice cast and the astounding use of Ren & Stimpy-like characters in a 2D animated world adorned with photo collages, makes this show a usually funnier effort than other animated shows that take place underwater.
