REVIEW: THE SIMPSONS “TO CUR WITH LOVE”

Spoilers Below

Frink shows off a new invention of which destroys the Springfield Retirement Castle causing Grampa Simpson to move in with his family. Eventually, Homer discovers an app called ‘Villageville’ on his MyPad which is kinda like Farmville where you can build a medieval village.  As a result of Homer’s obsession, Santa’s Little Helper disappears, but eventually they find him under the sink. Turns out, Homer could care less about the dog despite being the one who rescued it. Apparently, Homer isn’t a dog person and Grampa knows why. You see, when Homer was a kid he had a dog named Bongo and he was Homer’s best friend.

Homer is distressed at the very mention of his furry friend due to the fact that while Monty Burns was trying to get approval for his power plant, Burns got chomped on by Bongo. Burns wants the dog dead, but to make sure that doesn’t happen Grampa hides him with his next door neighbor Ms. Viola of which doesn’t sit well with Homer and as such affects his relationship with both the dog and Grampa. Because of this, Homer”s relationship with his father has been strained through the years including today because of his detachment from Bongo. As luck would have it, Bongo lasted quite a few years and he always remembered Homer having been  reminded by his sweatshirt.  Having learned a valuable lesson,  Homer learns to appreciate Santa’s Little Helper. Then Burns tells us all about the fiscal cliff.

I’m not claiming The Simpsons is the most canon TV show ever, but why would Homer resent dogs all these years if he saved Santa’s Little Helper….in a CHRISTMAS EPISODE! That said, this week felt like your typical run-of-the-mill go back in time episode that of which we have seen 10,000 times. There was hardly a laugh to be had until we got the Mr Burns short of which was already online for a bit. As cool as it was to have a dog named from the company that makes The Simpsons comics, this episode makes me wish I could go back in time before I watched it.
