REVIEW: SUPERJAIL “NIGHTSHIFT”

Alice works a second job and uncovers a hidden gift.

Spoilers Below

The kitchen is in disarray and Alice needs a raise. Instead, Jared names Alice to work as a chef and almost instantly she just gets it. The Warden tries the first dish coming from Alice’s kitchen and he friggin’ loves it! Later on the inmates are getting ready to chow down but of course it turns into a bloody mess but Warden just HAS to talk food with Alice no matter what. Eventually, the two abscond into a mushroom farm so that Alice can get some new ingredients but Warden gets constrained and gets to sample some of the local fare. When Alice and the Warden get back, Alice gets harassed by the other cooks and Warden is totally tripping the fuck out all the meanwhile trying to prepare for a ‘Last Supper’ feast for a soon-to-be dead inmate.

The other cafeteria works decide to make Alice look incompetent by messing with her food and putting in terrible ingredients that were never part of the recipe. But, out of nowhere the entire dinner gets attacked by a giant killer tomato which leads to a big old scrum featuring the garden veggies fighting off the SJ security all to the death. But, the Warden gets his meal and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

This was the episode of Superjail shown at NYCC and it was just as funny then as it was tonight. Granted, we’ve all seen the premise of someone out of nowhere ends up being a good chef and impresses all but with Superjail’s crazy mind fuck of a show, even an ordinary plot can come out looking completely different. I definitely would have like to have seen more of the Warden tonight as I don’t think he had that many lines, but the fight scene near the end was as gruesome twosome as you can get. The animation was extra awesome tonight especially with the psychedelics kicking in on the Warden. This week the night shift delivers a dish best served warm and gooey.
