REVIEW: FAMILY GUY “Lois Comes Out of Her Shell “
A midlife crisis leads to Lois adopting a wild new persona, and Peter struggles to keep up with her. Meanwhile, Stewie’s new pet, a turtle he found in the park, turns out to have an evil side and is bent on ruining Stewie’s life.
Spoilers Below
It’s Lois’ birthday and she wants nothing to do with it as she feels she’s getting older way too quickly. Later at the park, Lois throws her back out while playing with Stewie which causes him to befriend a new turtle he finds in a nearby pond but right off the bat we suspect something is off as almost right away he tears off Rupert’s eye. On Lois’ return, Peter throws a surprise birthday bash but of course, he hurts her feelings of which she runs off crying. The next day Lois comes home looking like a lady cowboy and blasting rock music in her new Jeep.
A week after Marge Simpson gets her tatt, Lois gets one of her own which now just adds to all of the changes the middle-aged wife is going through all of which are approved by Peter. Unfortunately, this new Lois is starting to wear on Peter’s psyche as the novelty has worn off leading his wife to party without him. Yep, she’s acting younger but Peter is still feeling older. Worst yet, Lois heads to a Justin Bieber concert which causes Peter to try and rescue from such terrible music. After working her way backstage with some Pinkberry, Lois tries to have sex with Bieber but Peter beats the shit out of him and brings Lois home after apologizing. Well, only after some Conway Bieber!
Earlier on at the park, Lois throws her back out while playing with Stewie which causes him to befriend a new turtle he finds in a nearby pond but right off the bat we suspect something is off as almost right away he tears off Rupert’s eye. Oh, yea and it turns out this fucking turtle is out of control has caused a bunch of damage and is now trying to kill Stewie and Brian. Later on in the evening, Stewie is able to flush the turtle down the toilet after another failed murder attempt. The next night, Stewie finds two boxes with severed heads in it, one with some random dude, and the other is Rupert’s head…but where is this turtle? Later Stewie sets a trap for the turtle, but the turtle fights back with a trap of his own. But, out of nowhere Super Mario comes out and takes out the turtle!

Our Take
I was wondering when we were going to get another Conway Twitty gag, as Family Guy is usually good for one a year, and happy to see it was at Justin Bieber’s expense. The middle-age storylines have been done a bunch of times before by other shows including numerous times by The Simpsons, but where this week’s episode really shined tonight was the battle between Stewie and his turtle. Similar to his dad’s many exploits with a huge chicken, Stewie and the turtle held nothing back and as such gave is a hysterically brutal climax that ended in the most random of random ways one could even think of. ‘Shell’ also had its fair share of decent cutaway gags, lead by Johnny Depp’s re-portrayal of Edward Scissorhands in a bit that no matter how many times I’ve seen still can’t help laughing, but other notable entries include the bald guys licking each other and the fake grocery store for Lois. Unfortunately, a heavily cliched plot with Lois and Peter kinda weighed this one down for me, and as a result kind of took away the uniqueness of Stewie’s night.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
