REVIEW: SOUTH PARK “GOING NATIVE”

Butters’ obstreperous behavior gives his parents a reason to tell him why he’s not like the other kids, so he asks Kenny to accompany him on his journey of self-discovery to Hawaii.

Spoilers Below

Butters kicks the shit out of a kid with diabetes at school and when Kyle tries to reason with him the kid flips! At not only Kyle, but he reams out everyone in a straight line with the exception of Kenny who apparently is the only decent one in Butters’ eyes. Later, the parents are in town and are trying to reason with Butters but to no avail. Its here we find out that Butters is different than all the other kids because the Scotches are from elsewhere. Yep, turns out Butters and kin are from Hawaii and he has to go back to engage in some sort of initiation WITHOUT parental supervision. After the kids get wind of Butters’ departure, Kenny opts to join him on the trip but Sir. Leopold isn’t aloud on the plane due to his ‘intoxication’. Thankfully, Kenny convinces the flight attendant to let them board and off they go!

Once the kids land, they are greeted by other native Hawaiians  and are introduced to all the local eating and living joints scattered throughout the island which to be honest looks like a pretty typical town. Eventually, Butters discovers alcohol but is distraught to find out that his beloved ‘Molhallo” rewards card is no longer valid in Hawaii and as such joins the other citizens in fighting back to save their currency. The first strike in this battle comes in the form of Butters sending a golf ball through a cruise ship’s captain ‘s head causing the ship to sink!  However, the locals are growing weary of Kenny because he isn’t from Hawaii so they put him through a rigorous test to gain their trust. That said, Kenny screws p the challenge and is sent down a raging waterfall and sent off a rocky cliff and into an abandoned resort where he meets the drunken ghost of Elvis who is hiding a shit ton of booze.

It was only a matter of time, but Butters decides to come up with a speech for all of the ‘locals’ in an effort to rile them up to battle back for their lands which are now being bombarded by US Coast Guard bombs and all seems lost until Kenny shows up with a bunch of booze and Butters admits what’s been pissing him off this entire time. The Coast Guard gives up and the locals give Kenny and Butters their due.

Wow…ummm. That was one hell of a finish was it not? Evidently, the reason why Butters was acting like an emo girl on her period(nice) was because Ben Affleck just came out with a film that garnered great press versus his earlier work/marriage to J. Lo! Hahahahah, count that as one of the most random twists in the history of South Park ladies and gentleman and leave it to Butters in being a part of it. The rest of the episode was pretty lame with the exception of the Elvis ghost as I felt the jokes introduced at the start of the show just kept getting rehashed a 100 times during the course of the episode. However, Kenny’s letter writing bits were pretty funny and largely unexpected, but other than that people are going to remember this one for the ending as opposed to the meat an potatoes.
