REVIEW: CRASH CANYON “RISKY MONKEY BUSINESS”

Spoilers Below

The canyon castaways are still adjusting to the simple life without technology, so members are still constantly finding their own business innovations and structures of amusement. For example, Sid is stealing Pete and Carol’s supply of morphine to get high, although the former punk rocker blames a talking horse.

What’s unclear is if the magic beans he plants are real, or a drug induced hallucination. Either way, the beanstalk is struck by lightening and disintegrates, leaving the canyon community stranded for yet another zany episode. After witnessing Colton Steel verbally abusing Private Lippy, Norm decides to liberate the space monkey, by giving him sanctuary in the Wendell’s camper washroom. Sheila disapproves and some monkey business ensues.

It’s apparent that Colton and Lippy don’t appreciate the intervention, but due to Sheila and Norm’s disagreement, they take it upon themselves to fix the astro-companions’ “problems”, including an unqualified group therapy session with Frida as the mediator.Meanwhile, Jake starts a business after training a pigeon to become a carrier. When he raises the prices for his service, Roxy starts her own pigeon post by bribing Jake’s bird with food. It escalates into a bribery match with edibles, resulting in the pigeon’s massive weight gain, rendering it from flying, with a morbid result.

Like many previous episodes, Risky Monkey Business is a far cry from brilliance. But there are some laughs throughout. The highlight of the humourous bits is a scene where Nalappat imagines the residents of the canyon as dummies and pictures his dummy as a human being. Let’s just say the dummy’s response definitely contrasts what Disney’s Pinocchio intentions were when he became ‘a real boy’
