‘FAMILY GUY’ TO YOUTUBE…IS THIS COMPETITION FOR YOUTUBE ANIMATION CHANNELS??
According to an article from Mashable.com, 20th Century FOX is set to put together a licensing deal with Youtube that will see a number of its most popular shows become available for rent on both Youtube and Google Play. Basically, what Youtube is looking to do is move in on Apple’s iTunes store and they have a real shot to do it in terms of videos because Youtube is already crazy popular and features both licensed content and original channels ala Shut Up Cartoons and Mondo Media which is something Apple really doesn’t do all that well(yet). That said, both Apple and Amazon remain as viable sources for video rentals, music, and more but with this deal in place Google is going to move right with them.
One potential fallout could be that with the premium content offered up by Youtube as part of this deal with FOX, could this spell SOME sort of competition for Youtube original programming? Think about it, if I want cartoons I can go to Shut Up or Cartoon Hangover, but with a monolith like Family Guy could I get my fix with the more popular series??? Here’s the thing, the episodes for Family Guy are going to cost money and with the hit animated series already on TV 11,000 times a week its probably something I couldn’t see plunking my hard earned cash for. Would YOU pay for Family Guy??
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
