REVIEW: LEGO NINJAGO MASTERS OF SPINJITSU “WRONG PLACE, WRONG TIME”

The ninjas go back in time to battle Garmadon.

Spoilers Below

Garmadon and the Ninjago are at it again! A battle ensues but Garmadon creates a portal that goes back in time in hopes of stopping the Ninjago from ever existing. The Ninjago soon follow but have to be careful that they don’t alter events in the past as they could affect events in the future. Welp, that almost immediately goes out the window when the Ninjago decide to tell the Sensei from the past everything that is going down. Worst yet, they appear at a time when the Skeletons show up to fight Kai. Eventually, the Ninja help defeat the Skeletons (led by Garmadon) who were supposed to steal Nya and inspire Kai from the past to become a ninja. Thankfully, Sensei is able to convince Kai to start training anyway so as long as he becomes a ninja the future Ninjago should be square.

The training of Kai from the past isn’t going so smooth, so the present day Ninjago decide to kidnap Nya to hand her over to the Skeletons in hopes of getting past Kai is inspiration of becoming a ninja. The present day Ninjago break in and take Nya while past Kai meets his new team mates and thus begins his training on his path to Ninjago. The present Ninjago drop of Nya, but Lord Garmadon visits his past self and tells of what is going down. As such they lure past Kai into a trap but the present day Ninjago actually show up and fight off Garmadon by finding their Golden Weapons and destroying  the Mega Weapon thereby bringing the Ninjago back to a time when there was no mention of the Mega Weapon and guess what?? Lloyd is young again!

Very interesting story and you can see a bunch of inspirations all over the place. For example the obvious fighting inspirations of Samukai coming from General Grievous, the Matrix bullet-time used a bit more than the other episodes, and the obvious plot coming from Back to the Future. You would think this would be a disaster, but the writers actually do a nice job of blending them and creating an episode that was really good and even provides some awesome twists that surely leaves me with wanting more. Also, it was great seeing the Skeletons again, underworld Garmadon, and most importantly Lloyd young. This show sure does keep you guessing.
