BONGO COMICS REVIEW: SIMPSONS COMICS #190

Bart goes from being the best ‘liked’ kid on FacePlace to the kid ‘most likely to be despised’ when an enemy with a score to settle steals his password and his identity on the social network. Will Bart get back at the computer hack?

Is anyone really surprised that at Bart Simpson is the most popular kid on FacePlace? He gets sooo many likes from his kick ass skateboarding videos that he becomes the most popular kid in school, even making Milhouse pay $5 to have the pleasure of sitting next to Springfield’s new online sensation. However, strange enough there always seems to be ONE ant at the picnic who dislikes everything Bart posts online…that ant’s name is Sideshow Bob! Soon, Bob has had enough of Bart’s skyrocketing popularity and decides to put a stop to it by hacking Bart’s account and posting nerd love all over the place, turning Bart from a star into a dud. Soon, Bart decides to enlist the help of Martin and his nerd friends to help in finding Bart’s online assassin. Eventually, they foil Bob by planting a love triangle with him and two security guards long enough for the nerds to hack into his computer and steal his FacePlace password so that they can undo all of Bob’s online doings and set things straight by giving Bart another hit video.

The Simpsons comics writers sure do love their Social Networking stories. I think this is now a few times this year already we’ve had Lisa on Chatter and now Bart on FacePlace. It hasn’t gotten to the point where its formulaic yet because social networking really has taken over our lives but I think its interesting to see so much focus. Other than that the story was a lot of fun and there were a lot of fun gags like Lisa falling from the rafters during play rehearsals,Bob’s video near the end, and all the nerd love. Cuz nerds need love, too!
