REVIEW: THE SIMPSONS “THEM, ROBOT”

Episode Synopsis: Mr. Burns replaces all of his employees with robots—with one exception: Homer. This raises the unemployment rate in Springfield significantly, and leads to much misery. And it hits home to Homer, too, when robots attack him. Original Air Date: Mar 18, 2012

There’s a drug test coming up at work soon and Homer’s not allowed to drink any booze for a while which of course he fucks up.  After the drug tests, Burns fires everyone in the company and replaces them with “Comic-Con nerds” aka Robots, that is everyone except for Homer J. Yep, that’s right even Smithers gets the boot! Its not all fun and games though as Homer doesn’t much like working with the robots who don’t appreciate his jokes and he misses his friends who surely don’t miss him.

With everyone out of work we get to see what some of the plant’s ex employees do for work, Barney’s a stripper, Smithers is a sub teacher, and Lenny wipes down windshields. However, the robots turn out to be pretty cool dudes, they play baseball(preferably with the NL rules), protect you from oncoming traffic, and make delightful conversation. But trouble ensues when Homer performs “robotomies” sending somewhat peaceful machines in an all out droid-rage even going after Mr. Burns! Thankfully, all the ex-employees come back to help save the day, thus giving everyone their jobs back!

The Simpsons are just knocking them out this season with another sterling effort. The writing is as good as ever, and doesn’t look as though its slowing down any time soon. The plot itself seemed greatly inspired by I-Robot, what with the notion of worker robots being turned bad where they then attack their previous owners. However, Homer and the robots provided a bunch of laughs along the way, like Homer’s D’oh earthquake, Mr. Burns’ trap door app, and Moe putting a shotgun barrel in his mouth. The award goes to Brent Spiner as the robots, including the one that claims the American League Rules of playing baseball are full of shit, and that the NL is the real deal (Amen!).
