The Belcher kids can’t stand going to gym class, so they go to Mr. Frond to suggest them doing an independent study on synchronized swimming as a replacement for attending a relatively useless class.  The kids then spend their entire first day galavanting around town and living it up instead of actually doing their assignment. Things go a wry however when Linda runs into Frond who tells her about the new assignment that the kids are doing. Ordinarily this would piss anyone else off, but instead Linda decides to become a coach for synchronized swimming…and her subjects? Tina, Gene, and Louise! None of them take it seriously though, so Linda quits right before the school board is set to go to the pool to watch their progress. Bob freaks out, because if the kids don’t perform well, they have to go to summer school so he decides to teach the kids a routine. And despite the fact that Louise pulls a Caddy Shack, the Belchers are able to pull out all the right moves in a poopless and waterless pool.

Bob’s seeing dollar signs with the purchase of a new soft-serve ice cream machine. But, while the kids are off with Linda, he has no one to help him cook, do ice cream, and deal with customers all at the same time.

Wow, who would think that Louise would have the balls to shit in the pool. Gotta love her, as it might be the grossest thing to ever happened in a Bob’s episode helping make the A-plot really strong. Also, Gene having to wear a girl’s swimsuit while in the pool was funny. I was really let down by the Bob B-plot as I was really getting into the idea that Bob would have to serve ice cream, but really there wasn’t much there making me think we really didn’t need this plot at all as there wasn’t much funny in it due to its short stature. The real high spot of the episode was by far the Bob, Linda, and Tom Selleck inspired Ghost sequence, but I think just about everyone in animated TV has done that joke at one time or another. Louise was really funny the whole episode, it seemed like everything she said was great, and Gene making fun of Bob’s swimsuit was spot on. Also, I couldn’t help but notice that ‘Synchronized Swimming’ had a few more cutaway gags reminding me less of a typical Bob’s Burgers and more like a MacFarlane produced affair and together with some stale material, this meal tasted a little off.
