Comedy Central isn’t done yet…announces MORE animated shows on the development slate!
As you know, yesterday I talked about a report coming from “The Hollywood Reporter” giving the low-down on a few new animated series coming our way courtesy of Comedy Central. Welp, according to yet ANOTHER “THR” report(these guys are the best) Comedy Central has added a few other projects to its development slate. Here is what they are with my comments underneath.
*Robots: An animated show that pits a group of household electronics against their slacker owner. Kumail Nanjiani (Comedy Central’s Hot List, John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show) along with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office, Bad Teacher) will write and executive produce.
*TripTank: A collection of animated shorts featuring comedy’s brightest, with plots that range from a magical alcoholic wheelchair helping sick children to a group of aliens studying the world’s most average guy. The project is a collaboration between executive producers Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico of ShadowMachine (Robot Chicken, Moral Orel) and Tom Gianas (Pretend Time with Nick Swardson, Saturday Night Live) combines a variety of animated formats with a broad range of talented writers and creators including Tommy Blacha, Tom Gammill, Jon Glaser, Laura Kightlinger, Joe Mande, Bob Odenkirk and Duncan Trussell.
*Untitled Cyanide and Happiness: An animated show featuring the twisted humor of a world populated by glorified stick figures, from the creators of the Cyanide and Happiness web-comics. Kristipher Matthew Wilson, Robert Andrew DenBleyker, David McElfatrick and Matthew Melvin will serve as creators and executive producers on the project.
I was at first upset to learn that the show “Robots” had nothing to do with the movie “Robots” that released a few years ago, but I am AMPED by the TripTank show. It sounds like a “Robot Chicken” meets old-school “Liquid Television”, and not only is Tommy Blacha(MWA/Metalocolypse) gonna be doing stuff for it, but if you guys have never heard of Duncan Trussell well you are in for a treat! Duncan’s one of the funniest comedians in stand up right now and can typically be seen occasionally as a guest on the “Joe Rogan Experience”(he was just on there about a month ago). Lastly, its great to hear the guys over at “Cyanide and Happiness” are getting some action, but in case you haven’t heard from them, go on over to their Youtube show and get ready to laugh because they have a TON of funny shit on there.
Oh yea, in other Comedy Central related news, “Rolling Stone” magazine was the first to report that South Park co-creators have been nominated for a Grammy for “The Book of Mormon”, but if you read my last Grammy post you know I probably won’t watch.
Also, I got the latest digital issue of Game Informer (with the South Park RPG on the cover) and the main story is a fantastic read, I suggest you guys check it out either now digitally or when it hits magazine stands January 5th.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
