Yea, so there are apparently SEVEN bidders lined up to try and purchase Hulu. This list includes a who’s who of names according to Deadline like Disney, News Corp, Comcast, DirecTv, Time Warner Cable, Yahoo and a few others. Here we analyze the potential suitors and try and figure out if they are a good match for Hulu:

  • Comcast, TWC, DirecTV: All of these guys are competitors so I wouldn’t be surprised if some of this was due to just trying to bid up the price more and more. I’ve never seen DirecTV or TWC try and manage original content so I’m unsure of how that would work, but at least Comcast has NBC and they’ve been doing a good job figuring that out. That said, Comcast also shut down the G4 Channel in favor of an Esquire one so not sure if that would be cool either way.
  • Disney: These guys already own everything including popular franchises like Star Wars and Marvel so why the hell not? Hulu would be a great place to stock up on all of the Disney shit singles of yesteryear like Snow White and Cinderella. I can guarantee one thing though. If this were to happen say good bye to The Awesomes and Mother Upbecause Disney typically doesn’t like anything made by others and even more so isn’t great with managing properties on TV geared towards adults.
  • News Corp: This is the same company that got caught spying on celebs, right? They are also the same company that shelled out a billion dollars for once hot web properties like Myspace and IGN only to see both sold for WAY less than what they paid for them. As a result, if this were to happen don’t be surprised if Hulu turns to shit in like 6 months because that’s what happened in prior cases. Remember when IGN was cool?? Yep we do too, but that was before News Corp.
  • Yahoo: This is my favorite acquisition. They just purchased Tumblr for a billion dollars and are JUST starting to build out exclusive content of their own so making a play here would work. This wouldn’t be the first time Yahoo purchased a video platform for a bunch of money  years ago as they gave a billion dollars to a rather young dude who had a product called Broadcast.Tv. That dude is now Mark Cuban on Shark Tank and owner of the Dallas Mavericks.

So, who would YOU be cool with taking over Hulu?
