“The Pyramids of Lisa”

Lisa catches a news report that says an undiscovered pyramid has been discovered, and she starts to daydream about being Pharaoh. She does everything possible to bring a utopia to her people, which incurs the wrath of the Egyptian Gods. Everyone is feeling the wrath, when Lisa finally gets the point that the Gods were trying to tell her. She snaps out of it just in time. The last page of the story was pretty funny.

“Honey Pooch Pooch”

Lisa runs into Milhouse at the registration line for a dog show. After a really insightful line about stage mothers, she is intimidated by all of the other owners. After Wolfcastle’s demonstration, he’s declared the winner before Lisa has a chance. Lisa has a heartfelt speech, but Krusty ends up giving it to a dog that’s dressed like him. They get home, and the backyard is decorated for a celebration.

“Lisa’s Lending Library”

Lisa sets up a lending library for the kids in the neighborhood that need the summer reading books. After the neighborhood takes the books for anything but reading, Lisa decides to dismantle the library. Ralph talks some sense into her by talking about little people borrowing things, and Lisa thinks it’s from The Borrowers. Ralph has no idea what she’s talking about, but just lets it ride. The story ends with Ralph getting thanked by his little friends.

These stories were fairly standard fare. However, the different art directions the book makes the book shine. “The Pyramids of Lisa” had an anime feel to it, with Lisa resembling the main character from Yugioh. And “Lisa’s Lending Library” was totally different from what I’ve seen before. I don’t even know what to compare it to. Overall, this book is middle of the road, taking very few chances to leap above the rest of the Simpsons comics.
