We Rank The Top Five “Quintessential Quintuplets” From Season One

Before you ask, Miku’s not #1.

A second season of The Quintessential Quintuplets is on its way this winter, meaning the race to be The Bride seen in the flashforwards will soon resume in earnest. If you’re a fan of the series (and somehow haven’t read the manga), this list will be a good way to get somewhat caught up and reacquaint yourselves with where each of the Nakano sisters is in the rankings. However, due to the nature of a harem series making rankings made mostly up of personal taste and attempts at genre savviness, the rankings will go a bit differently than the norm.

We’ll go down the list of the sisters by age, but each will get two rankings (along with brief explanations for my reasoning):

1. Preference Rank: Who I’d LIKE to win, based on my own taste
2. Likeliness Rank: Who I THINK is more likely to win by the end of the story, based on my own familiarity with this genre and how these characters often end up

This will only be based on the events of Season 1 of the anime, not the manga which has progressed much farther as of this writing and is apparently close to completion. Hopefully, we’ll be able to do this list again after Season 2 but for now…

SPOILERS AHEAD!

1. Ichika:

Preference Rank: 1st
Yep, we’re at my number one right out of the gate. Not ashamed to say that Ichika was a pretty easy choice for my main pick when I first started the series thanks to her having a lot of qualities that I like to look for in casts of these sorts of shows. Approachable, clever, flirty, short hair, all wins in my book. Through learning about her aspirations to become an actress and her struggles with being her true self while trying to play the “eldest sister” role didn’t hurt either, showing a girl who was trying to balance her love for her family with her love for her dreams, even without throwing in her budding feelings for Futaro. She was the first of the five I found myself latching onto and that almost dance in the shed sealed the deal.

Likeliness Rank: 3rd
Though while I like the character tons, I’m afraid to say that she might have had her path to victory crippled the start. What that comes down to is her potential for character development, which is also tied to her order in the group. Being the oldest, her character arc will likely be about finding herself as a single person as opposed to being one of a group, which might be too much to resolve along with courting Futaro. That probably means that she’ll be one of the first out of the running, if not THE first to make room for the other sisters who have more room in their arcs to focus on that. Still, I placed her in the middle because, while she might end up not being the winner, she has more of a shot than two of her siblings.
