This Week In Viral: “The Simpsons” In GotG V2 & They May Have Predicted Fortnite Black Hole

Director James Gunn for years has teased crazy Easter eggs in his films, more specifically in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and to this day I know not all of them have been discovered. But, here’s a new one that MAY have been featuring The Simpsons. Reddit User Initial_XD had noted that a line in the movie’s second volume may have served as a callback to a classic bit from The Simpsons that you can see below:

During a scene in Berhert in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Gamora mistakenly recalls Peter telling her that his father,”David Hasselhoff” had a “magic boat, when it was actually a talking car. Specifically, K.I.T.T from Knight Rider. I could not help, but notice the association since there is actually a “crime fighting boat” parody of K.I.T.T on the Simpsons, Knightboat.

We’ve reached out to James Gunn for comment, but haven’t had a return reply just yet. In any event, I’m willing to wager that James, given his crazy sense of humor, was all over The Simpsons growing up and we’re all better for it.

In related news, to end the game’s tenth season, the producers of Fortnite have issued a black hole that sent the internet nuts and had people recalling to this shot of The Simpsons that showed Homer and the gang staring into a black hole which is what a lot of Fortnite players were doing when the now viral event all went down. That said, was the latter case more of an influence than a prediction? Regardless, this show has thought of it all.

This Sunday Night’s episode of The Simpsons is the latest iteration of the Treehouse of Horror anthology episodes titled “666” where a segment entitled “The Danger Things” will spoof Netflix phenom The Stranger Things. Other spoofs include The Shape of Water and Black Mirror. Check out screenshots for the upcoming episode here.
