We talk to John Dusenberry & Zack Keller about their new Rug Burn series ‘Duke of Fancy’

Today on the Rug Burn Channel, you can check out the premier episode of Duke of Fancy co-created and starring John Dusenberry and Zack Keller. Duke of Fancy follows a guy named Duke who cares about one thing and one thing only…money. Ironically enough the pilot episode debuted last year right around the time of the Presidential election where Mitt Romney was just coming down off of his campaign which was mired in controversy surrounding the Occupy Wall Street movement, but for Mitt it probably was the ‘Only 47% of America will vote for us’ which as it happens was almost on target for what he actually got when the polls were counted.  ‘The idea for Duke of Fancy actually came before all of that’ says Zack.

So either Zack Keller and John Dusenberry have super powers where they KNEW they had to launch this series about a rich snob right around the time when rich snobs everywhere were probably glued to their TV’s rooting on their favorite rich snobs to take office, or it really was a coincidence that Duke of Fancy would take its New Yorker magazine inspired presentation and post it up on December 11, 2012.  John Dusenberry claims that the Duke of Fancy has a number of different inspirations saying that, “Duke of Fancy is very Terry Gilliam inspired, but we drew from a number of different sources because we wanted it to fee like gags you would certainly see in New Yorker magazine, but the style definitely grew from the different stories and concepts we were getting across while we were developing the show.”

Those worried that Duke of Fancy is a one-trick pony, Zack Keller notes that the freedom of working on a Rug Burn series is that they really stretch their creative muscles and  notes that there are nine more episodes of Duke of Fancy on the way and they all deal with various topics, “We wanted to tell really simple stories, we aren’t trying to be a one-hit wonder.”
