Springfield, Oregon to Erect An Official Simpsons Mural

In an effort to make the city look more like my living room, Springfield, Oregon is installing a mural dedicated to America’s favorite family, The Simpsons.

As previously reported by us, the Simpson family (like show creator Matt Groening) most-likely hail from the Beaver State, and leaders of the real Springfield, along with show producers, would like to commemorate this link, according to city spokesman Niel Laudati.

“We’ve been looking for years for ways to celebrate Matt’s Oregon connection with our Springfield,” Mayor Christine Lundberg said. “We thought public art would be the perfect venue, and Matt agreed.”

At long last, it appears the mural will finally come to fruition on the 15-by-30-foot west wall of the city’s Emerald Art Center. The Center’s east wall already features a mural, an Oregon Trail piece painted in 1993, which we can only assume depicts a herd of oxen drowning while attempting to ford a river.

The Simpsons mural is expected to be completed in mid-September, and will cost approximately $10,000, which will be funded through tax revenue from hotel rooms.

Although a 20th Century Fox print artist has already completed the original artwork plan (which will show Homer lounging in a hammock, Bart climbing a tree, Marge painting, and Lisa and Maggie riding a bike) the city is currently seeking a muralist to paint it.

Although Groening isn’t personally creating the mural, he still wishes to add his touch to it. “I plan to sneak up in the middle of the night and sign the mural,” Groening said. “I hope I don’t get arrested.”

Let’s hope he adds an “El Barto” signature as well.
