But that’s not why you clicked the link, did you? Nope. It’s for this reason. Reportedly, South Park: The Fractured But Whole will adjust the difficulty of the game dependent on race and gender. As you can see in the graphic above, the darker your skin tone, the more difficult the game is. Afterwards, you can then pick your gender which will also include an “other” option that will help you further specify to that of “cisgender” and “transgender”. While the race alterations won’t have any effect on the battles in the game, they will have consequences in terms of making cash and how NPCs respond to you.

Our Take

Suffice it to say, the producers of South Park has put a thumb on a hot topic issue in today’s political and social climates. Clearly, the game is leaning a tad left, but these features will surely increase replay value for those who have completed the game once as one shade of skin, with players looking to possibly replay with different settings just to see what the experience is like. In my experience, I’ve seen numerous players on a game like Grand Theft Auto Online where white men enjoy dressing up and playing as a woman. So expect to see the ladies well-represented.
