Shorts Review: Sanity Not Included Season 4 – Episode 8

 Spoilers Below

As you may have heard, the Sanity Not Included guys didn’t release a new episode last week. They promised to return the following week and did so, with an intricate, new episode, which perhaps shed a bit more light onto the delay.

Although the first few skits were barely worth a chuckle, the “make-up” sketch was legitimately funny, as was the “this isn’t a race” vs. “drop the bass” one.

But then, just under the three-minute mark, the show shifted to the Dex & Aleks segment, and the characters were suddenly transported to… the real world? In their true human forms, the duo ended up at E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) and the viewer is given a choice of five different “choose your adventure” video options. I’ll save you some time (and ads) and just go ahead and tell you none of them are worth watching. Just keep on truckin right past them.

There were a few more random skits before the episode shifted back into Dex & Aleks hopping from game to game, eventually ending in Minecraft. Dex blames his pal for not helping him in a previous game and leaves, with a sad, solemn Sanity Not Included theme song playing in the background.

I can appreciate the creativity that went into this week’s installment (and the opportunity to see the creators “in the flesh”) but I still wish there were a few more short gags. The funniest bits are still the non-Dex & Aleks ones, and the guys should keep that in mind each week.

Still, this episode is worthy of a watch for the few good jokes, the creative story, and associated imagery. Hopefully it will lead to an epic follow-up.
