Season One Review: King Star King

The first season of any series can make or break the show. This is the season that sets the tone of the show, introduces the main characters, presents the setting of the story, and sets up the premise. Ideally, all of that should be in the pilot episode, but the first season expands on those things even more.

That being said, the first season of King Star King did everything right. Although it consisted of only six short episodes (seven if you count the pilot), we were introduced to the Gigantiverse and the Waffle Zone, a diner/spaceship filled with shady characters and half-naked alien babes. There we met the titular character, King Star King, and his crew of strange heroes. This crazy crew consists of Hank Waffles, the waffle-headed proprietor of Waffle Zone; Pooza, a duck wizard; and Gurble, a furry creature that enjoys having strange alien sex with Pooza.

In this short season, we have traveled the Gigantiverse with these heroes while they embarked on several heroic journeys. We were there when King rescued Princess Snow White from Alfonzo Molestro. We watched in horror as King made strange sweet love with Baroness Sludgeclot. We got tested for STDs after the gang visited Fat Frank’s Fantasy Lounge. We rooted for Mike Balls as King helped him stand up to a bully. Our heartstrings were pulled when Hank Waffles met the Burger Bitch and finally found true love. And then lost it again. We passed the peace pipe when King’s crew got sucked into another dimension and ended up in the mysterious Kwa Kwa City.

Through it all, we’ve seen more disgusting shit than we would care to remember. But we’ve also seen many beautiful things that jiggle and typically come in pairs. We’ve been treated to the kinkiest space sex imaginable. We’ve witnessed blatant drug usage. And if we have forgone blinking, we’ve seen our fair share of subliminal messages.

King Star King has a unique style to it. In essence, it is like a more explicit version of Superjail. There is a lot of fast animation with tons of crazy stuff going on in the background. If the show had a motto, it would be, “sex, drugs, and kicking ass!” While we at Bubbleblabber can’t official endorse the use of illicit recreational drugs, those who live in Colorado or Washington may enjoy this show a little bit more.

Overall, King Star King is a great addition to Adult Swim’s online shows. I truly think it deserves a second season, and perhaps even more than that. Either way, I look forward to seeing what crazy adventures King and his strange crew of heroes embark on next.
