SDCC2018: Netflix’s Disenchantment Panel Recap
Follow THAT!
Possibly the most anticipated premiere of the summer season is that of Netflix’s Disenchantment. We had a chance to visit the panel (a Netflix show getting a panel at any Comic-Con is rare) and here’s what we learned about the upcoming series from the producers of The Simpsons and Futurama.
For starters, we learned creator Matt Groening has always wanted to make a fantasy series, however, he also wanted to do his own slant on the genre. Instead of traditional good vs evil, he noted during the panel that he wanted to do something where the bad characters have their reasons for being bad and that even an enchanted princess can have personal issues. The series will have varying lengths in episodes that will take advantage of the fact that they are on Netflix with arcs, more adult humor, and a little more dramatic fare than what some of Groening’s prior works.
Disenchantment will premiere August 17th on Netflix with ten episodes and will feature the voice talents of Abbi Jacobson (“Bean”), Nat Faxon (“Elfo”) and Eric Andre (“Luci”), along with John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery. Animation is being done by Rough Draft Studios (Futurama). The series is produced by The ULULU Company for Netflix, with Matt Groening and Josh Weinstein (The Simpsons, Futurama) serving as executive producers.
In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
