Our Take
For the first episode. Much of the humor felt predictable in places but mostly relied on slapstick humor. Also, as somebody who’s actually new to this rendition of the titular Smurfs, I’m shocked Gargamel has a mother who’s become a prominent character with the proceedings. The humor also stemmed from Jokey Smurf being the lovable jackass that he is yet ending on a predictable yet funny note.
While the 2nd episode primarily focused on Smurfstorm who comes from the village of female Smurfs who seem self-sufficient with some capable in combat and trained like Amazons. Much of the episode is spent on physical comedy, Storm’s efforts to learn how to manage “Smurf-Sitting” and the trial and error process she had in figuring out a solution.
Overall, both were decent episodes. What they both commonly shared was the comedy of errors both storylines had in different ways. I also didn’t know how much had changed in this new series, but it’s interesting to see Gargamel having a mother who hilariously calls the shots when in past storylines he’s often been the grossly incompetent villain with his Cat Azrael usually being the smart one. While the other was mostly funny with its situational comedy even if it lacked consistency.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
