Review: The Patrick Star Show “Stair Wars/Enemies a la Mode”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Patrick and GrandPat attempt to pass each other on the stairs, resulting in a ludicrous conflict between the two. The members of the Star family each confront their rivalries.

Our Take:
The first episode, “Stair Wars”, featured more of GrandPat and Patrick as they transformed a flight of stairs into a war zone. Patrick wanted to go upstairs to get his golf club for his miniature golf tips segment on his show. GrandPat, on the other hand, wanted to go downstairs so he can use the downstairs bathroom because the upstairs bathroom has a toilet monster that dislikes him. All they had to do was walk past each other, but nope, they instead had to battle each other to see who goes by first because of the Star family’s poor use of common sense.
This was the type of episode that took a simple situation that can be easily solved and flipped it on its side by going all out with its sheer stupidity. While it isn’t without its moments, the episode did feel pretty pointless regarding the circumstance given and its anti-climatic conclusion. On the bright side, it did feature the return of the Patgor segment, which was introduced in last week’s episode “Pat-a-thon”. The segment was enjoyable before, and it managed to maintain its enjoyment now thanks to its stop-motion animation and self-referential humor.
Its second episode, “Enemies a la Mode”, returns to the formula of exploring a concept through the eyes of Patrick Star. This time, it’s the concept of enemies. The Goofy Goober ice cream man’s enemy is Patrick, Bunny’s enemy is a toaster, and GrandPat’s enemies are clocks. The entire premise that accompanied the concept involved Patrick not doing a show until he gets some ice cream. Unfortunately, due to Patrick’s intense obsession with the treat, the ice cream man isn’t giving him a single cone.
The episode was a slight improvement over the previous one primarily due to the formula introduced in the series premiere and humorous dialogue. I found it hilarious when the show took some expressions literally, such as Patrick stating about losing his lunch when he actually meant losing his lunch: a sandwich. The other highlights of its comedy were Patrick’s nature documentary segment and GrandPat’s Lactose Intolerant Movement flashback.
Overall, both episodes delivered plenty of randomness and giggles in their stair wars and enemies. However, they didn’t leave that much of a lasting impression due to their execution. These two mini misadventures won’t make viewers go crazy for any ice cream like Patrick compared to the previous two episodes. Still, they’re entertaining enough to be tasty treats for people who enjoy the show’s charming idiocy so far.
