Review: The Muppets “Single All The Way”
There are a couple of different storylines in the winter finale of The Muppets. Some of them are short and sweet.
Guest star Mindy Kaling is supposed to sing a song with Piggy on the live holiday episode of “Up Late With Miss Piggy.” During rehearsal, Kermit finds out that Mindy can’t sing but she doesn’t realize it. He is tasked with finding a solution to the musical problem. In his first attempt, he tries to get her to do a comedy sketch instead. When Mindy says she would prefer to sing, Kermit decides to have the entire cast and crew sing the song with her. Thankfully, it worked.
The next short plot involves Sam the Eagle trying to hook up with Janice from the Electric Mayhem. Sam hangs a sprig of mistletoe in the doorway and waits all day for Janice to walk by. Unfortunately for Sam, Chip the IT guy stands around talking to him the entire time. Janice finally walks by and Sam completely misses her. Later, at the company holiday party at Rowlf’s bar, Janice approaches Sam to compliment him for talking to Chip since Chip has problems making friends. Then she kisses Sam on the cheek. Mission accomplished, Sam.
Now for the two main storylines.
Becky has broken up with Fozzy and now the Bear doesn’t want to play Santa in the holiday episode. Kermit tries to talk to his best friend but Fozzy tells him that he can’t understand how Fozzy feels since he has never been broken up with. He is the one that broke up with Piggy. Kermit tells Piggy about the situation and she agrees to talk to the bear. Even though her pep talk brightens Fozzy’s day, it also makes her think that maybe she has lost her chance at being with Kermit again. Piggy swirls into a cheese-filled depression. With “Up Late” about to begin, Kermit goes to talk to Piggy in her dressing room. The two agree to be friends but it looks like there may be chance that they will get back together. Hmmm….
Finally, Yolanda has her own piece of the story pie. Sadly, she was left out of last year’s office Secret Santa. This year, she is in charge of the event so she only puts her name in the bag. Of course, this means that everyone in the office has Yolanda as their Secret Santa. Eventually, Rizzo and Pepe figure out the scheme. When they realize that no one had Yolanda last year, they apologize and everyone gives her the gifts they got her this year. It really was a sweet moment.
You would think that having this many plots running at once would be confusing. Somehow, they all managed to work off of each other instead of competing against each other. And having the possibility of Piggy and Kermit get back together was a great cliffhanger. Since the show won’t be back until February, this might be enough to bring the audience back after such a long break. We all know that everyone wants to see them together again. They should be the main relationship in the show, not Fozzy and Becky.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
