Review: The Casagrande’s “Operation Popstar”

Overview

Ronnie Anne and Sid try to get Yoon Kwan’s autograph. While Carlota helps Alisa (Ally Brooke) prepare for the Great Lakes City Music Festival…

Our Take

This is possibly one of the few times the show has devoted an entire episode into a half-hour format without having it be two segments along with a full version of the show’s theme song.

But both subplots were compelling enough at the very least. Ronnie and Sid had a bit of a wacky subplot involving a K-Pop-themed band called “12 is Midnight”, while Carlotta was faced with her own troubles being “BFF’s” with a pop star named Alisa who feels like a parody of Ariana Grande of sorts. Progressively the two subplots eventually intertwine with a moment of Truth for Carlotta learning what it means to be a legit friend, while Ronnie & Sid’s story is sort of resolved itself in a weirdly convenient way ending with a decent song.

Overall a passable episode and who knows if they’ll do this again. I’m just as surprised how long this felt. If they wanted to, they could’ve cut this in half as a 2-parter if they wanted to go the 2-episode format, but points to them for trying something different.
