Review: The Adventures of Kid Danger “The Wahoo Punch Bro; Pink Rocket”

Punch it, Chewie!

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

“The Wahoo Punch Bro”

When the Wahoo Punch Bro (A twisted parody/amalgamation of the Kool-Aid Man and Hawaiian Punch’s “Punchy” mascot) causes havoc throughout Swellview after being fired from his job, Captain Man and Kid Danger must take it upon themselves to stop him which becomes alot harder than it sounds…

“Pink Rocket”

When the local school bully Mitch Bilsky mocks Henry’s effeminate motor scooter that he unwillingly got as a gift from Ray, it prompts Ray to set up a race between Henry and Mitch in a series of scenes that parody the musical film “Grease” while trying to prove the superiority of Henry’s Scooter.

Our Take

At times, “The Wahoo Punch Bro” episode was occasionally funny in places with clever lines of dialogue such as “He quenched my thirst without my permission”. The pacing was a little too fast and at times it got downright stupid as the episode progressed. It would’ve been a much shorter episode if they just called for him like they did earlier with a line that sounded akin to “Hey! Kool-Aid!”. When the two finally do find a solution to stopping him, It ends on such a mean-spirited note that it left a bad taste in my mouth.

The latter episode “Pink Rocket” was possibly one of the worst Grease parodies I ever saw. It only has two musical numbers and the name “Pink Rocket” was possibly made so it can sound similar to the “Greased Lightning” song, but much like last episodes Wonka parody, it lacks the energetic charm of the very thing it’s trying to poke fun of.

The Animation wasn’t nearly as stiff, and the scenes when they were funny did hit their mark, but the painfully unfunny scenes in both episodes sadly overshadowed the rest of the proceedings as it only made me further dislike Ray as a character. The shit that happens in “Pink Lightning” all could’ve been avoided if Ray wasn’t such a 30-something, moronic, insufferable man-child and actually took his longtime friend & sidekick seriously as a person, instead of giving him something as emasculating as a pink child’s scooter as a gift.

Overall, It’s a special kind of kids-show when both episodes not only make you feel stupid for watching it but find new ways to make one of your lead protagonists even more unlikable with some of the laziest writing I’ve ever seen in my life. And I sat through Akiba’s Trip!
