Review: Supernatural “Scoobynatural”

How has this show lasted this long?

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Some asshole real estate dealer that doesn’t want to pay taxes is pulling a bit where he takes a haunted device, attaches it to something, and now that thing takes on a life of its own. In the case of Dean and Sam, they buy a TV that becomes “infested” and as such it transport the guys to a Scooby Doo cartoon. Eventually, Castiel joins Dean and Sam as they team up with the Scooby gang and stay in a haunted house where a ghoul makes his stay. Eventually, we learn the truth about the ghost and the Supernatural guys make a deal with it to help them get back to their real world to apprehend the real troublemaker behind the caper.

Our Take

The crazy thing about this special episode is that the Scooby Doo portion of it is excellent. Featuring classic stylistic elements from the Hanna Barbera series and a way more mature take on the animated franchise, we almost get a real winner here.

I say almost because the live-action portion of Supernatural is a mess. Featuring terrible acting, unfunny characters (Jensen Ackles is just plain bad), and painfully shit dialogue, Supernatural’s one chance to impress me doesn’t go over well. If we get more animated crossovers, I’m game, but as a live-action series, this show stinks.
