Review: Steven Universe “Tiger Philanthropist”

This one’s a real tiger.

Steven and Amethyst are tag team partners in Beach City’s underground wrestling league. They are the duo Purple Puma and Tiger Millionaire. However, Amethyst has gotten bored of wrestling so she quits. At first, Steven quits as well. Then Lars, not realizing that Steven is Tiger, points out that Tiger could have stayed after Puma left. wanting to make his friend happy, Steven rejoins the wrestling world as Tiger Philanthropist. He still manages to kick butt all by himself. But Lars still isn’t satisfied. So Steven decides to quit again, by giving away the tag team belts he won with Amethyst. By this point, Amethyst realized how important their tag team was to Steven. She comes back for one night to “kill off” Purple Puma and Tiger Philanthropist once and for all. Of course, now Lars complains that it was just starting to get good.

There is a special friendship between Steven and Amethyst. I’m glad that their time wrestling helped give her some self-confidence as a fighter. She doesn’t think she’s awful anymore. And Steven got to spend some alone time with his good friend. I’m a little sorry that they didn’t fuse in order to fight but that’s OK. They still kicked a lot of butt as themselves. This was definitely a cute stand-alone episode.
