Review: SpongeBob SquarePants “Captain Pipsqueak/Plane to Sea”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Captain Pipsqueak
Plankton joins the League of E.V.I.L.
Plane to Sea
SpongeBob and Patrick take Squidward on a plane to a tropical resort.
Our Take:
The first episode centers on Plankton putting his villainous skills to the test by joining the League of E.V.I.L. After his latest scheme failed for the gazillionth time, Plankton decides to join the team led by Man-Ray and the Dirty Bubble. Now known as Captain Pipsqueak, Plankton goes through several tests to earn his spot.
The humor consists of Plankton getting lunch from Weenie Hut Jr’s and leaving a flaming bag of snail droppings in front of a giant super-foot’s house. Afterwards, Plankton leads the villain team to invade the Krusty Krab and steal the secret formula. However, the League thought they were stealing the recipe for world domination instead of the Krabby Patty, so they dumped Plankton into a bottle of evil sauce. Despite its predictable plot, the episode is entertaining for its humor and a surprising amount of cameos, including Dennis from the 2004 film and Nosferatu.
The second episode has Squidward taking a relaxing vacation to a tropical resort called Bora Bora Bottom. However, he must have a family joining him to get there. Unfortunately, the only family he has is his annoying neighbors, SpongeBob and Patrick. After 12 hours of plane madness, they realize that the prize is to see Bora Bora Bottom instead of relaxing in the resort, upsetting Squidward.
Most of the episodes in SpongeBob SquarePants consist of SpongeBob and Patrick unintentionally (or intentionally) making Squidward’s life a living hell regardless of the scenario. Some were endearingly goofy, while others pushed themselves over the limit with the slapstick and the characters’ actions. “Plane to Sea” placed itself in the former category due to its tolerable humor consisting of SpongeBob and Patrick fooling around inside the plane. The highlight of the humor would have to be the two goofballs filling in as flight attendants when Patrick mistakes the emergency exit for the bathroom door.
Overall, both episodes are nautically nonsensical and vibrantly goofy enough to continue the long-running show’s 13th season. “Captain Pipsqueak” is another humorous episode centering on Mr. Krabs’ business rival joining a villain league. “Plane to Sea” is a solid addition to the show’s collection of moments involving SpongeBob and Patrick making Squidward’s life miserable.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
