Review: South Park “Nobody Got Cereal?”

Clearly the “let’s get out of here before the holiday” episode.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

ManBearPig and to a lesser extent Satan is still running roughshod all over South Park, but you’ve still got your skeptics like Randy and Yates who want nothing more than to just keep playing Red Dead Redemption. Fortunately, the kids get out of jail and meet up with Al Gore to formulate a plan while Stan decides to investigate the senior citizens to get some backstory on ManBearPig.

While Stan gets some answers from his grandfather, Satan and ManBearPig go nuts in an epic battle that sees Satan die and go to heaven. Turns out, grandpa’s deal is rather easy to figure out, and with support from the town, the kids are able to get access to a legal process that sees an agreement put in place that will make sure ManBearPig doesn’t come back for another five years.

Our Take

This thing looked like a sure-fire trilogy right up until the last five minutes of the episode which seemed a tad rushed in its execution. Fortunately, South Park Studios continues to showcase its technical muscle with that excellent Satan vs ManBearPig fight which might be one of the most brutal things this series has ever done. The show’s 22nd season continues the recent trend of sampling classic seldom-used characters with Satan, ManBearPig, and Al Gore just as we got earlier this season with similar nods to Towelie and Mr. Hankey. It’s an interesting dynamic and one that works, but that last five minutes really irked me. It’s kind of one of those endings you force because you know you’re gonna be off next week for the holiday, so let’s kinda jam it in there. Yes, it’s funny seeing ManBearPig taking legal matters into his own hands, but I feel like a hockey player that just got blind-side checked on my way to an easy score.
