Review: The Simpsons “Treehouse of Horror XXIV”
Spoilers Below
Guillermo helps deliver the best couch gag of the year and here we are with another rendition of Treehouse of Horror.
Oh The Places You’ll Go!
Marge is going to a Halloween party, but the kids have the mumps. Fat in the Hat comes by and gives them candy all the while insulting a senior citizen. He kicks the shit out of the Bore-Axe then heads on down the street with the kids visiting houses for Tricking and Treating! Problem is Fat seems to be more interested in killing than candy, that is until the group picks off Apu in an apparent robbery. The Simpson kids decide to escape before they become another kill stat, but when they get home there he is Fat in the Hat. Thankfully, Maggie is still the murderin’ one of the bunch.
Dead and Shoulders
Bart’s out flying a kite, but he gets tired and ties the rope around his neck. A Copter comes by and grabs the kite thereby severing Bart’s head. To keep him alive, Hibbert sews Bart’s head to Lisa’s body. The two try to make the best of it, but Bart finds out that he can control Lisa’s body when she’s asleep. However, the next time Lisa wakes up she takes off both Bart’s head as well as Lisa’s. Thankfully, Hibbert has managed to perfect the art of head-attaching.
Freaks no Geeks
The Burns circus is in town and like every great circus you get a freak show. This one is no different with the main attraction being the Ugly More. Marge thinks that Burns treats these freaks like trash and that he should be a bit nicer. Moe seems to appreciate her kind gestures and more so it looks as though he’s rather attracted to her. The only thing of value Moe has is a ring and Homer the Strong Man wants to take it from him. He tells Marge to marry Moe and she agrees. Eventually, Marge starts to feel for Moe and even stops Homer from killing the sideshow freak. The rest of the freaks kill Burns and decide to go after Homer. But, that’s how Homer meets Marge.
For starters, Guillermo Del Toro produced what will probably be the best couch gag of all-time. Honestly, I’m not sure how the producers of The Simpsons will top it, but we will have to wait and see. The first short was funny and the art direction was stellar as it accurately depicted a Dr. Seuss rendition of what the world of The Simpsons would look like, but the dialog just got annoying and I’m not sure if you know this most Dr. Seuss books are short as a result there was only SO much I could take of the Seuss jargon. Dead and Shoulders was a little better, but there wasn’t MUCH that was really grabbing me in terms of wanting to see it again. The real winner was the Freaks no Geeks short which featured a bunch of the Simpsons cast as grotesque forms. Comic Book Guy was a snail, Homer was all about looking good and making sure he gets what he wants, and of course Moe. The poor guy can never catch a break, but he will have to deal with the fact that he basically carried this episode on his back along with Mr. Del Toro.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
