Review: RWBY Fairy Tales! “The Shallow Sea”
Overview
Ozpin recounts two distinct origin myths regarding the Faunus…
Our Take
This tale is sort of an amalgamation of the 3rd and 7th stories taken directly from the RWBY: Fairy Tales of Remnant book. And seems the most prominent given that most of the promotional material shows the image of an enigmatic creature known as the “God of Animals” which is this towering shapeshifting deity capable of taking on on humanoid, animal, and mythological forms at a whim while spreading the word of unity and peace in its own unique way…
While the RWBY Universe acknowledges the existence of animals outside of Grimm co-existing with humans in RWBY, we rarely see any sort of real animals show up here or there outside of Ruby’s dog Zwei or the Schnee family having a stable of white horses in the DC-published comics. The 3rd story is the titular “Shallow Sea” which tells a different story in regards to their possible creation on the Faunus island of Menagerie. While the other story is called “The Judgement of Faunus” which tells a completely different version of how the Faunus came to be while sharing the concept of unity in the face of a common threat in the form of the Grimm.
These are both decent stories, and despite them being two different versions/interpretations of the Faunus myth of why their creation happened to begin with. What they both share in common regarding the presence of the Animal God, and the centuries of prejudice and segregation they’ve experienced. So seeing more animals and world-building within this world is always a plus for me.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
