Review: Regular Show ”Daddy Issues”
Spoilers Below
We come to find out that CJ is a helluva mini-golf player and she wins free lunch for El, Mordy, and Rigby. The owner of the restaurant offers to put CJ in the tournament, but we have to get some practice in first. Turns out, CJ is the friggin Lebron James of mini-golf, but if she misses? She goes nuts. We find out that CJ’s dad was a pro mini-golfer that used to train with his daughter like he was part of the Gestapo or something. This caused CJ to have a bunch of issues whenever the topic of mini-golf came up, but with no sign of her dad she decides to go.
Unfortunately, during the day of the tournament, we find out that CJ’s dad is in town and he’s signing autographs at the competition. He starts talking a bunch of shit and this causes CJ to flip out and declare war with her dad. Dad joins the tournament, and now it’s personal. The two blow the competition away, and during the finals it comes down to CJ and her dad in sudden death. And THIS course looks out of its fucking mind. On the last hole, CJ’s dad Carl misses the final shot and a whole bunch of monsters show up to start some shit. CJ hits the last shot, and father/daughter are cool again.
Only a few weeks into the sixth season and we’ve already got two ‘meet the parents’ episodes, but this week’s was a bit more cliched than the Mordecai one. For starters, we’ve probably seen 15,000 competition story lines in Regular Show, and really CJ’s dad was just a stand-in for Muscle Man. However, this was the first CJ episode I kinda liked, but I still don’t think she’s nearly as well-liked as Margaret. It has nothing to do with Cardellini’s voice production, but I think we were way more invested in Margaret and I don’t know if I’m ready to care about these parents. Who knows, maybe as the season wears on, I’ll start to give a shit about CJ.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
