“Rorg: Hero of a Past

McFist orders an ill Viceroy that he can’t call in a sick day until he destroys Randy. To come up with some ideas for robots, Viceroy turns to a popular 80s style cartoon called Rorg: Hero of a Past. The series helps Viceroy come up with monsters, but Randy beats all of them with the help of Howard.

Our Take

Ahh yes…the ode to 80s cartoons. Family Guy does this all the time and Regular Show just did one for Japanese anime that was more of a throwback. Randy Cunningham continues this trend and does so with a throwback to the He-Man days and they do a good job of it. That said, Randy’s battles seemed quite a bit easy, but Howard’s alter ego helped make it a bit more light-hearted.

Mort-al Combat”

Howard blames the ninja for breaking something belonging to his father, so naturally Mr. Weinerman goes ballistic and hunts down Randy with a new robot designed by Viceroy. Eventually, Howard comes clean, and Randy’s able to destroy the robot before it does any real damage.

Our Take

A nice change of pace getting a different face trying to go after Randy. Adding the fact that the Ptera-robots need to be driven was a different dynamic that added a sense of ‘What is he gonna do?” to the episode. These robots seemed to add a bit more challenge as well, and seeing McFist waffle on whether or not he liked Mr. Weinerman was entertaining to say the least.
