Review: Pig Goat Banana Cricket “The Goofy Turkey Zone”

Except, we hardly spend any time in said zone.

Spoilers Below

Cricket goes back in time to date Goat instead of getting her sick with flowers…or whacked with ice cream…or blow up the world. None of which works.

Goat wishes to be a great musician so she reads the Book of Gorf for help. Upon opening the book, a gnome named Gorf pops out and grants Goat’s wish to be the greatest musician ever. The instrument of choice? The kazoo. Problem is, every time she plays the kazoo, something horrible happens.Goat books a concert, but is finally warned of the repercussions of what happens when she plays her kazoo and instead gives Gorf a taste of his own medicine.

Banana needs to win a video-game competition for a game that’s super difficult despite his previous experience with the franchise. Dr. Cronenbird shows up and promises to show Banana the way to victory. The Dr.’s fix for Banana is to sew on new hands that have experience in beating games. Banana wins a bunch, but when the rightful owners of his new arms show up, the Dr. tells Banana that he’s always had the ability to win and he does just that. Unfortunately, Banana can’t even hold the trophy because he doesn’t even have hands.

Pig possesses Angry Old Raisin’s scooter but Raisin gets it back slightly demon-possessed and starts going nuts on Pig attempting to constantly run him over. To even the odds, Pig finds a monster lawn mower, and that gets possessed too. Fortunately, the two sides are able to talk things over before any serious damage happens.

Everyone gets stuck in a Twilight Zone alternate universe.

Our Take

It’s been awhile since this show came across my desk, but here it is, and it’s just as I remembered it though it’s a bit mixier (not a word, I’ll explain) than I recall. For example, the producers don’t wait til JUST the very end to wrap everyone up in a bow, instead, we get more strands of the diverse principle cast as the episode advances.

I think both Cricket and Banana featured premises that have been a bunch of times, and I’m sick and tired of Goat’s musician fawning, but Pig’s bit was good enough to pass this episode. A certain producer’s heavy metal-laden inspired art direction definitely had a chance to take hold of that one and go nuts, and we’re all the better for it.
