Review: Penn Zero “Baby-Pocalypse/That Purple Girl”

“Baby-Pocalypse

The crew go to a world where they are cheapo carnival prizes. We find out that the town’s mayor has been taken hostage and t’s up to PZ, Sasha, and Boone to save all. Rippen and Larry show up as cute babies and cause all sorts of carnage. The heroes try everything to subdue the newborns, everything from feeding to distractions fall by the wayside leading to one final try…HUGS! A massive group hug from the whole town gets the babies to calm down long enough for a cage to be dropped on them thus saving the day.

Babies are funny. Plain and simple, and this is by far my favorite of all of the worlds that we’ve been to. PZ constantly being unstitched was getting a bit old,  but overall a rather well done episode. The character designs were flawless, eschewing influences from Kirby or Little Big Planet, and hearing Alfred Molina do his best baby impressions never gets old…NEVER. I hope this show revisits worlds, because I want to come back to this one.

That Purple Girl”

The trio heads to a land that sees them become almost Avatar-esque aliens with the exception of Sasha whom looks like one of those eel monsters from The Avengers. Eventually, we meet a girl that causes PZ and Boone to battle over her affection, only to end up in a bit against a big huge monster for their troubles. Thankfully, the monster is somewhat reasonable, and decides to let everyone go free.

Purple is a fruit, but this was my least favorite of all of the Penn Zero episodes. I liked the monster at the end, and the girl screwing over both guys was rather unexpected, but the producers are already inserting montages, and at this stage of the game, it’s too early to be getting lazy. We didn’t even get that great of a battle with our normal cast of bad guys, but the new ones were good.
