Review: Mike Tyson Mysteries “Mystery for Hire”

“Well that’s a long story; probably about 11 minutes.” – Mike Tyson

Spoilers Below

The tag-line is correct; it is a LONG story. It’s a long story because almost nothing happened. Not that a lot can happen in 11 minutes, but the episode could have been 3 minutes and still seem to be void of story content. The entire episode is Mike Tyson’s account to a news caster of how he ended up in a shootout of a prestigious loan company. His story pretty much consists of these elements:  the gang getting the notification of a mystery, the gang showing up to apply for the mystery, the gang being accepted for the mystery, the gang showing up to the building, a shootout occurring, and then Mike telling the newscaster how it went down. That’s it; nothing more. I’m actually quite surprised that Mike Lazzo approved this episode for airwaves. About as much happened on this episode, as Adult Swim’s 30 second bumps in between the commercial breaks of the programs that it airs. You know, the black screen with white text interludes, with the one-liners.

I’m serious here. I’m amazed that the script was produced and animated for this. There were two jokes that made me smile in the blank nothingness that was this episode: the gang dressed as The Village People (at least, I’m pretty sure that is what they were going for), and Mike’s new license plate- BI GUY. Other than those two brief gags, there was virtually nothing.

This season has had it’s ups and downs so far, but this is definitely the low point.
