Spoilers Below

The Guardians hit up the Conjunction which is ran by The Grandmaster. This guy runs a Madison Square Garden-arena that he wants to host an event for. His idea? Gamora vs Drax. Neither want to fight each other, but strapped for cash, both decide to enter for a fight. Worst yet, we need to get some crystals from a dude named Lunatik all the while trying to stave off Nova Corp member Titus.

The Grandmaster decides to hold his fan base hostage if Gamora and Drax don’t put on a show. So, while those two go at it, Groot, Rocket, and Star-Lord go underground and traverse into the holding dock where their ship is getting upgrades. One of the upgrades seems to have included explosives complements of The Grandmaster, so Rocket and Star-Lord grab all of the bombs from the ship and drop them on The Grandmaster’s arena. Titus makes an arrest on The Grandmaster, and the Guardians are reunited and back out to cause trouble.

Our Take

See, THIS is Guardians of the Galaxy TV series. The animated adaptation of the movie did a great job of introducing comics prevalent in the comics, but in this universe, so it works. Moreover, Marvel is a bit more consistent this week in its depictions of villains whereas last week we got two completely different takes on The Collector, his brother is a bit more assimilated between this series and Ultimate Spider-Man. The fight scenes were strong, but whomever animated Rocket’s mouth movements during dialogue needs to go back to Cal Arts. Still, a strong episode in a season that’s still trying to find foothold for the freshman series.
