Review: Loafy “Loafy and Friends Take On YouTube Pranksters”

Overview

Loafy puts Slippy (Gina Gershon) in charge of the zoo’s late-night security after two Idiot Youtube celebrities break in and make Scrooge (Eugene Cordero) a victim of a cruel prank…

Our Take

While the scenes with Slippy do excel in laughs with Gina’s over the top performance of from Judge Dredd to Jim Jones with how much the power of authority goes to her head, with the major turning point being the ending which not only manages to deliver in laughs but also in some decent Joaquin Phoenix movie references. As for the two jerks who somewhat become the impetus to this story, It feels quite relevant given the almost consequence-free nature of Youtube personalities doing the most disrespectful things imaginable for the sake of attention without facing almost any kind of legal backlash (Logan Paul Anyone?). And it makes you wonder why these two jerks aren’t immediately arrested yet, but the narrative purposely ignores this mostly for the sake of pacing.

For what could possibly be the last episode of Loafy,  Bobby Moynihan has stated in the behind the scenes segment that while much of the dialogue was improvised between the cast, the episode itself was the most structured one they’ve done compared to the previous 7 episodes as Bobby knew exactly what direction they wanted to take.
